Saturday 9th November 2019

With the dawn came a wonderful pink sky and in some places a slight frost where the grass strips on the ground had a white sheen.

Through the air came a dramatic sound of tearing and ripping as a flock of 300+ Wood Pigeons flew past, their wings making this amazing sound as they travelled.

More activity from above in the form of a Raven whose large, dark form with fingered wings and triangular tail makes a distinctive site, the croak of a call just adding to the classic identification features.  A little later this bird was buzzed by a Peregrine Falcon which looked very small when alongside.

Earlier I had spent a few moments watching 2 Peregrines, one on the rock edge calling the other flying towards and then landing alongside.

More surprising was the view of a Pheasant flying along the clifftops, the rotund body and short wide wings and long tail making me double take for a moment.

Huddled onto the cliff were 100+ Guillemots, those on the edge showing off their winter plumage with the expanse of white on their faces.

In the fields (South Field, Taskers and Paddock) the Hereford Cattle are grazing, part of the management of the wildflower meadows, so please make sure you shut all the gates.

The Blackthorn scrub was a good place to look for Thrushes as I walked around.  The deep red flash of the Redwings noted as they moved amongst the branches as was the pale stripe above the eye.  The smart grey and brown marking of Fieldfares showing as they perched in the Hawthorn while in flight the whiteish patches under the wings caught my attention while Blackbirds also featuring in numbers.

Meadow Pipits, Skylarks, Bullfinch, Goldfinch and Redpoll also noted this morning while last night a Badger was watched as it scuttled along the path.
