A Jay made an appearance as it crossed the approach road on what was the coldest morning of this month so far!

Above the low cloud and distant sea mist on the horizon the sun shone bright over a still, blue sea. Below the mile markers sun beams pierce through gaps in the clifftop dry stone wall. Meanwhile, the dew upon grass blades twinkle as they reflected sunlight.

One Carrion Crow soon was followed by a second and they at least passed over the small copse. Whilst the Crow calls were brief, a Robin’s tutting’s were persistent. Cow pats indicated that the Hereford Cattle had been getting into South Field. As such an electric fence has had to be installed alongside the failed drystone wall which has been cleared by the Duke of Edinburgh Award volunteers.

A brief cliff top visit revealed that Guillemots indeed were within their cave ledge again this time with a Herring Gull perched on the seaward edge. Whilst angling boat Happy Hooker II passed by fast and close to the cliffs it only sent up waves. However, the four Royal Marine ribs that headed west were far out from the cliffs but appeared to send a score of Guillemots and a flock of Herring Gulls. Unrelated a pair of Rock Doves fled the cliff face and headed in land.

Upon the wares a Blackbird flew off to join a partner on another scrub island. Below the Quarr a male Stonechat soon flew off passing its mate as it did. Deeper down slope upon a mass of Blackthorn, Elder, Madder and Ivy perched a Blackcap. A swift, silent fly past the mile markers was performed by the Peregrine Falcon as it headed east along the cliff top. On the Lighthouse side of the gully the grey / black tree and shrub frames were punctuated with patches of dark green thanks to Yew and Holly. A pair of Goldfinches perched amongst the buds and the tips of an Ash. Back at the centre a red breast Robin perched amongst the darker red of Haws.
