Sweeping across the grey sky were lots of Swallows, small black dots zooming left and right, up and down, superb to watch.
Standing in the bottom of the Dell were 2 Roe Deer, the male with antlers, as I watched, these mammals were disturbed by the bounding of Grey Squirrels as they crashed through the branches of the Holm Oak. Its leaves, which have been shrivelled by the winds, were being picked through by a Chaffinch.
Nearby a Jay flew softly through the leaves, the flash of blue and white alerting me to its presence, a Chiffchaff popped up as I watched.
A scattering of pink Herb Robert flowers, and the deep purple of Bugle, covering the ground along with the straggly blue of Germander Speedwell.
Hovering above the fields a Kestrel, while a Peregrine Falcon zoomed above the gully.
Many of the shrubs now on flower, the off-white Wayfaring Tree, some delicate white Dog Roses and the creamy-yellow Honeysuckle. Climbing up the hairy stems of some Nettles was Hedge Bindweed, the bright shiny leaves and spindly stem starting to overtake.
The black and white Guillemots on the water having a bathe, splashing and turning as they wash. The strong smell of guano wafting in the breeze, as it cakes the breeding ledges. Many of the Guillemots now have chicks – have a look at the live images in the Castle visitor centre or the video on our website. Wildlife & Marine - Guillemots (durlston.co.uk)
On the rock face a family of 3 Great Black-backed Gull chicks were being tended by a parent, the youngsters grey fluffy with black spots.
Gliding past 3 Fulmars, a wonderful sight to be enjoyed, just some of the 11 counted resting on the cliffs during the boat trip on Friday.
