As I walked out across the Country Park this morning, the sound of birdsong was filling the air. The wide variety of tunes being emitted by a Song Thrush as it perched on the top of the Hawthorn twigs, was wonderful to hear – it included tweets, twitters, peeps and fluted calls!
In full voice from an Elder, which now has a few emerged green leaves, was a Chaffinch, the sunlight highlighting the buffy-pink chest and white wing flashes.
Suddenly from the middle of the blue sky came the unmistakable song of a Skylark, a short search and the brown bird was spotted hovering, as I watched a second Skylark appeared, both singing loudly from above the meadows.
Flying, with what appears to me to be a very gentle wing flap, was a Jay, the bright blue flashes on the wings spotted as it moved, while from the midst of the scrub came the hooting call of a Tawny Owl, a little confused over the time of day it seems.
On the ground, flowers are beginning to emerge with a short pathway of Daisies, their little white and pink heads peeking above the grass.
Scampering up a Holm Oak was a Grey Squirrel, possibly one of the ones that has been spotted snuggled up in amongst a very cosy nest in one of our nest box cameras.
As I looked up on return to the centre, I as surprised by the sight of 3 Barnacle Geese flying above my head, a quick honk as they flew.
Some lovely bright flashes of yellow, with Lesser Celandine poking up from the ground. In the Brambles above, a flock of Long-tailed Tits flitted about
