This morn the skies were fine and welcoming
With Speedwell charging fourth amid the turf
Blue Tits and Wrens were coming out to sing
And far away the gentle sound of surf
The Car Park housed the yellow Celandine
Evernia prunastri hung in fronds
Next to the Woodland for a change of scene
Where Holm Oaks sway, each clad in Ivy’s bonds.
I saw our Guillemots were back in force
Acrobatics o’er the roaring ocean.
Back landward lay the blooming flowers of Gorse
Jackdaw birds were causing a commotion
A puff of feathers marked a Pigeon’s death
A sombre record of its final breath
A great day for wildlife today folks. Other highlights included the following: Chaffinches and Goldfinches in various locations around the park. A budding Sycamore or two at Long Meadow, as well as the calls of Green Woodpeckers. Scarlet Elf Cup and Oyster Fungi in the Woodlands. I also spied a few leaves of Bristly Ox Tongue and Yarrow amid the grass as I strolled.
