With the wind blowing strongly from the west it was a wonderful morning to be walking along the coast path and clifftops.
The Guillemots were again packed upon their ledges, black and white blobs standing upright, sometimes one or two took a quick whirring flight to return soon after with aplomb. These seabirds are just prospecting the area over the winter, often around in the mornings but gone by the afternoon back out to sea, their visits becoming more regular as spring approaches.
A Great Black-backed Gull stood on one of the rock protrusions, while another glided past showing its huge size off as it went.
As I admired the Gull a squadron of Feral Pigeons flew past, making me jump as they skimmed really close, the sound of the air tearing as they rocketed.
Perched in the Wild Apple tree in the gully were two Fieldfares, the grey heads easily spotted while in the nearby Oak tree Redwings were stood amongst the bare branches.
On the downland many tiny spiral snails – Cochlicella acuta – are slowing oozing across the turf.
A quick walk down the woods where the Tree Surgeons have been busy undertaking some woodland management, including removing some trees including some tall thin dead Elms, Sycamores and Holm Oaks, plus a large rotten leaning Holm Oak.
As I checked the progress a couple of Grey Squirrels were chasing up the trunks of an Ash tree. Emerging from the landslip below was a Fox, the red coat reflecting the beaming rays of the sunshine.
Yesterday saw the delivery and arrival of the new ‘shed’, much excitement as the large lorry delivering the recycled shipping containers was able to squeeze in and get out as well!
