Sunshine and blue skies once again the weather feature of the morning, the glorious views out across the sea to the Isle of Wight which was lit superbly, St Catherine’s Point sticking out onto the blue water and sky.
In the Lighthouse Field the Hereford Cattle are grazing, steadily munching through the Tor Grass and browsing on the leaves of various shrubs and bushes.
The sounds of a flock of Linnets flying overhead accompanied by the sight of this group landing on the overhead wires. As they perched a variety of male, female and youngsters were in evidence.
On the ground some Meadow Pipits hopped from clump to clump, taking flight and then returning to the banks to search for food.
Bounding amongst the Bramble clumps were Rabbits, their white tails flashing as they moved about.
Along the coast path, which we are currently cutting back to make access easier and to improve the grassland habitat, on each fence post perched a Jackdaw, 24 counted along this stretch making for a comical sight. The grey heads capped by black caps each cackling as I walked by.
Flitting in the old Pear tree was a gorgeous group of Long-tailed Tits, the pink, black and white colours and long tail making them unmistakable. They are wonderful to watch as they are constantly moving, dangling from the branches as they search for breakfast.
Scuttling out from the lower edge of the hedgerow was a female Pheasant, moving with an upright stance.
The Hawthorns on the downland are still covered in haw berries, and on these numerous Blackbirds were feeding. In the same bush a Dunnock was deep in amongst the twigs and a Wren was on the lower branches.
As I walked up the hill a sudden tearing sound in the sky drew my eyes upwards to see a Peregrine Falcon banking away just overhead, a fantastic view of its underside as it flew off, back the way it had come.
