Yesterday evening on my way down Lighthouse Road I exchanged glances with a Fox which had crossed the road journeying from one dwelling to another. Could this perhaps have been categorised as a suburban Fox?
Half a dozen Jackdaws congregated upon the lowest mile marker’s concrete base. However, they were but part of the throng of thirty to burst out of the Goat Plot Holm Oak cover. Again, I caught sight of a Guillemot flying out to sea, however, today I saw another flying back to the cliffs. Further investigation revealed thirty of the sea birds resting in the cliff cave. Above them perched a Peregrine Falcon in what has become its regular haunt of late.
The trouble with inspecting an electric fence lines is that one can find faults as I did this morning. The entire section above the lowest mile marker was dead thus suggesting either a line break, a flat battery or a short circuit. Fortunately, it was the later where slack wires had been able to cross. Keen to avoid some cattle escape I used two twigs to untangle the live wires and persuade them back into the post slots. At least a duo of Herford cattle was amongst the dense blanket of Old Man’s Beard "upstream" of Lighthouse Road Bridge. Hopefully they might open up some space so to give glimpses of the Winterbourne when it occurs.
Evidence of a Song Thrush activity was suggested by relatively fresh Garden Snail shell remains. Near the Small Copse I picked up an empty Garden Snail shell, perhaps this one would make it to the wildlife table.
Beside the coast path below the Lighthouse there was a good spray of Rock Dove feathers which suggested the activity of a Peregrine. Happily, there were flowers still in bloom amongst which were a good dozen Sea Campion below the Lighthouse. Nearby there were at least a pair of Thrift flowers. A solitary Daisy flower within the thick sward at beside the Lighthouse boundary wall.
Charms of flittering, chattering Goldfinches still remained a seasonal feature.
