Though overcast and misty this morning, spring seems to be showing off, with little to no breeze birds are out in force this morning. The hedgerows are covered in bright white Hawthorn blossom, which give off a subtle sweet scent. Wayfaring trees are also in flower their large domed flower heads poking out of the dense hedge row.
Goldfinch perch in the top branches of a Sycamore, there light twinkling calls filling the air. Further along a Chiffchaff call from somewhere amongst the branches of an Ash Tree. The leaves of the tree are starting to unfurl and fill the canopy.
Stepping in the south Field Buttercups have popped up across the whole field, there bright yellow shiny flowers like little jewels decorating the field. Yellow Rattle has also started to flower in shorter patches of grass the parasitic plant having weakened the grass around it.
Into Oxeye where its name’s sake it starting to pop up in the grass though not quite ready to flower yet. The scratchy call of a White Throat pulls my attention over wall into the scrub beyond, where the bird is perched atop a dead tree singing. A male and female Bullfinch can also be found in the same area, the males bright red plumage contrasting against the green back drop.
Along the top of the gully Charlock is a burst of yellow, while below is Wild Clary also in flower with more subdued purple flowers. Pale Flax sways only just in the breeze the delicate pale blue flowers adorning the top of the slim stems. Another bird call can be heard atop a Sycamore towards the top of the gully; a Black Cap sings before I spoke it and it flies off.
Over head a couple of Swallows zoom past, up and over the ridge before disappearing. Heading back more White Throats making an appearance as well as Blue and Great Tits.
