Beginning at the car park sixty Wood Pigeon passed overhead. They were joined by another forty that emerged from the Reservoir Copse. Meanwhile, a Magpie duo explored the grass verges. Sycamore and Field Maple had lost many leaves, however, an Ash retained keys. Entering the woodland strips of spores were noted on the underside of Harts Tongue Fern fronds. I slipped, without falling on the damp clay and polished limestone surface. A splash of colour came from the orange fruits of a Stinking Iris. It was a treat seeing a cluster of yellow flowers upon some of the diagonals Gorse bushes. A Robin “bleated” whilst a charm of thirty Goldfinches flew over. Offshore were two coaster and a sloop under sail. A sunglow was on the seaward horizon. Either four Greater Black Backed Gulls passed me heading west, or a lesser number circled. A thick rope like stem of Old Mans Beard creeper had be severed during recent clearance. Hemp Agrimony stems stood upright clinging onto a few leaves. Several Jackdaws cackled about the Goat Plot whilst a hidden Wren sent out machine gun like sounds.

One Wasp rested upon “Judy’s Bench”, another two were later seen upon a gate. Madder leaves poked through Tamarisk branches, then a few Sea Aster flowers remained beside Tilly Whim steps. A quartet of Feral Doves stared out to see from the edge of the wave cut platform. First two then later another three Shag flew east, low over the sea. It was a delight to see some eighty plus Guillemot huddled in the cliff cave. Overhead a “cronk” gave notice of a westward flying Raven. I was most surprised to sea some half dozen Swallows flying about the Mile Markers. Plenty of froth and spray was about the Gully Mouth, whilst inland a silent male Stonechat perched upon Gorse. Near the “Please preserve and not destroy the turf” engraving was a trio of Thrift flowers. A bounty of Rock Samphire succulent fingers was below the Lighthouse. Meanwhile, as hoped, a few Sea Campion flowers clung on at the western corner. Upon the green, some Puff Balls upon to “easy peeler” size were found as well as a hand spread sized Field Mushroom. I was surprised at the lack of leaf cover in the shelter of the gully ravine. Despite this an Ash retained leaves and keys beside the Horseshoe Bridge.
