It’s a beautiful sunny morning as I enter to do my first Diary in a fair while. Here I can hear many a Robin, a Raven in the distance, Goldfinches above me, as I spot a Grey Wagtail, a Bee species on Old-mans beard, a Crow and a Wood Pigeon. As I walk on towards Lighthouse Road, I notice the abundance of Swallows swooping above me, as a Blue Tit calls in an Ash. I pass the Ash as well as a small scrub area of Hawthorn, Horse-chestnut and Holm Oak, with Stinking Iris and Brambles on the ground.
I arrive on to the tarmacked path, 1x Magpie is seen on it as I hear another which is perched on top of another Ash. Into the Lighthouse field, it feels so calm and mild as I spot a fishing boat on the English Channel. A Dunnock is spotted and the odd smaller House Martin amongst the bigger Swallows are seen, a Stonechat was spotted and heard within the European Gorse, as a Meadow Pipet is sat on top of Blackthorn. Common Toadflax with its yellow bloom can be spotted as well as the odd bit of pink from Knapweed. I hear a loud squark in the distance towards the channel, the long wingspan is noticeable from 2x Greater Black-backed Gulls.
I stop off in one of my favourite spots in the park, the gully bride where I spot and hear Robins, Wrens, Chaffinch, Blue Tits, Great Tits, Long-tailed Tits, Goldfinches, as well as a Speckled Wood butterfly. Walking further on, a Blackbird was spotted, Herring Gulls seen, and many Jackdaws seen along the cliffs – especially looking west.
Passing the lighthouse, Rock Samphire is still spotted in bloom, whilst Golden Samphire’s yellow is no longer showing at all, Thrift can be spotted on the rocks below me, as light waves hit the lower platform below Tilly Whim – another one of my favourite spots in the park.
Walking up onto the cliff side of the clifftop trail, the sun keeps my face warm as I continue. Along the cliff side, Teasel and Tamarisk are everywhere, whilst Jackdaws, Herring Gulls, Robins, Wood Pigeons, many and Swallows the sound of a Wren are present. Towards the viewpoint, a Chiffchaff is heard as a Red Admiral appears around White Poplar.
Another Red Admiral, many Speckled Woods and around the Learning Centre a Large White and Wall Brown were all spotted.
