Entering the bird hide I managed to avoid a spider web strand. Just as I thought there was little to see, a Roe Deer, which was browsing Bramble or Blackthorn, became visible beyond the pond. Outside a Magpie explored the roof, then a trio of Great Tits converged upon an isolated Haw heavy Hawthorn. Overhead flew a solitary House Martin before I disturbed a male Blackbird turning leaves beneath the cover of a Horse Chestnut.

Whilst roadside Bramble and Blackthorn held fruits both Wild Madder and Cherry were bare, nevertheless, acorns were upon Holm Oak. A very pale green shelled Snail was at the walling centre.  Entering the downland a Dwarf Thistle bloom was at the tarmac edge. Further into the turf bloomed Rest Harrow. I delighted at find the “lemon and custard” blooms of Common Toadflax before the demo quarr.

Upon the coast a Shag flew low towards the sea cliff foot. Feral Doves and Jackdaws were also active, but the sea cliffs had no sign of the sea bird colony. Near the cave steps Wild Madder fruits were amongst the Gorse. My walk to the lighthouse was illuminated by the occasional yellow of Sea Samphire and my “pink” of Thrift. I had to wait until nearly passing the Lighthouse before sea the white of Sea Campion.

I was lucky to see a Kestrel perched on the window lintel of part of the Lighthouse complex. Below the lighthouse and coast path a Peregrine Falcon was just spotted flying west, as did a Swallow, albeit at greater height. A croak revealed a Raven before it emerged over Tilly Whim.

Firm, red, Rosehips and a dozen Jackdaws were about Lighthouse Green. One stem of Agrimony held a few yellow flowers at the road edge.

Ascending the steep downland slope a sprig of flowering Eyebright was a lucky find. White Yarrow flowers punctuated a dense clump of Tor Grass. Before the Copse a Robin tutted from an Elder and Knapweed flowers persisted.

The miniscule flowers of Bastard Toadflax (Stars In The Grass) were only just found amongst Saxon Quarrs short sward. The Hereford Cattle were the correct side of a rickety electric fence, perhaps more thanks to the water trough.
