With the sun starting to pop out from behind the cloud cover I head through the long meadow picnic area, passing Dog Wood in flower. the white flowers clusters of flowers decorating the ends of the newer growth.

Along the castle wall, Red Valerian in flowers sticks out of the cracks in the wall. Fushia is in full bloom down in the dell, red trumpet like flowers hanging like baubles of the branches. Above Sycamore flowers dangle from gently swaying branches. The sweet scent of Honey Suckle wafts past as I pass the plant clambering up a Hawthorn.

Guillemots bob about on the water in a large raft, two fulmars swoop elegantly in and out of the cliffs edge above. A Raven swoops down to land on an outcropping and smaller one, possibly one of this year’s young in training.

At the bottom of the gully a carpet of purple Sea Thrift spreads out either side of the path. With even more along the edges of the path up to the light house. On the verge below the light house Sea Campion and Sea Beets spread themselves down the verge.

Along the light house road where I spot Rest Harrow just starting to flower the pale pink flowers just starting to open. Horseshoe Vetch and Kidney Vetch also line the edges of the road, there bright yellow flowers standing out. The yellow flower spikes of  Dryers Greenweed stick out of the long grass and sway gently in the breeze.
