Sunday 18 February, 2024

Rain, rain, rain and more rain with 33mm falling within the last 24 hours, only adding to the huge amount of water already saturating the ground. I once again ahead for the relative shelter of the woodland. This does seem to be the perfect weather for Worms the heavy rain having drawn them to the surface, they now wiggle their way across the path.

Along the sodden woodchip path the song a Robin catches my attention coming from a tree above my head, I look up to not all see a Robin, but a Great Tit and Blue Tit joining it occasionally interrupting with their own song.

Down at sunny dale a beautiful display of purple Crocuses and snow-white Snow Drops can be seen. Ramson leaves are just starting to show a shore sign of spring approaching. The sound of the rushing water though the stream fills the air. as I watch the strong current of water race down to the sea.

I head back up the coast path occasionally stopping to unblock drains to allow the rushing water along the path to escape. A tiny bird catches my attention as it flies over the path, coming to land in some Ivy a Gold Crest hops amongst the branches. A dead standing Ash Tree has a wonderful display of King Alfreds Cakes, large jet-black cake like fungus growing in clusters up the trunk.

Below the globe two large Ravens perch on the wall preening themselves before I spook them and sore off towards the light house. One Fulmar elegantly sores in and out of the cliff, while before 20 Guillemots bob about on the water. Walking along the coast path I come across a new lake that was installed last night thanks to the rain. Wellies on I head into the lake to try unblock the drain unsuccessfully, deciding to come back later with some drain rods.
