A cloudy morning provides perfect bird watching conditions this morning with no bright sun light to obscure my view. However, the cloud led to tonight's Stargazing being cancelled.
I head down to long meadow where I’m greeted by a plump Robin singing his hart out. I head down the path alongside the meadow. Nestled in the grass ahead of me to the side of the path is a Jay is spooks at the sight of me and flies off over the driveway.
Along the edge of the path, I notice a Horse Chestnut with buds which are starting to swell, a shore sign spring is not to far away. While I admire this tree just off to the side two Great tits come to land in a Blackthorn just off to the side. They chatter amongst themselves while hopping around its branches.
Out in the meadow one Carrion Crow catches my eye as it comes to land. A bright white tail feather easily standing out against its other dark black feathers makes it easy to spot compared to its companions. At the very end of the path bright red Dog Wood stems add a splash of the colour to the hedge row.
As I enter the woods a tiny Wren makes it presence well known by singing away from a log just beyond the mountain of woodchip. I walk along the top woodchip path where Ivy tries to creep its way back on the path to reclaim it for its own.
Two Black Birds riffle around in the woodchip ahead of me before spooking and flying off. Halfway down the path I come to a large Sycamore where I spot a Tree Creeper “creeping” its way up the tree occasionally stopping to have a good peck around some lichen.
At the end of the path, I head back up along the coast path I pop in to the first viewpoint area to see a Peregrine Falcon come to land briefly in a tree further down the cliff, it then takes off and soars over towards the castle and out of sight.
I continue along the coast path when I hear a disturbance of to my right in the woods, I look over in time to see three Blackbirds exploded from ground in dramatic fashion only to be followed by a rather disappointed grey and white cat. It looks at me with disgust as if to accuse me of ruining this hunt, though I’m pretty sure he didn’t need a feathered breakfast the one his owners provides would do just fine.
