Thursday 29 December, 2022

It began as a dark, cloudy morning; however, I was to be pleasantly surprised by what I eventually saw. Initially Anvil Point light was in blinking mode. At the end of the coastal ridge a trio of Carrion Crows appeared. Two perched in a Sycamore, only for one to fly off with the other one following calling perhaps “wait for me”.

As it was high flying near cliff top level, I believed it was a Cormorant heading east. The wind wailed through the overhead wires whilst below the waves crashed, boomed, and sprayed as they hit the cliff face. Feral Doves flew about the “skull eye hole” of the quarried rock face. As second hi flying Cormorant flew east. There were feather on the coast path which was evidence of a Peregrine Flacon’s kill. Still Sea Aster flowers were visible beside Tilly Whim steps! Some ten Guillemot were seen flying low heading out to sea. Meanwhile, approximately sixty were in the sea cave whilst a moving linear raft of a dozen were manoeuvred by the waves. As Tamarisk “feathers” moved in the wind Wild Madder clung to the climber. At the observation point I looked back from where I had come and fortunately spotted a Peregrine Flacon perched on the cliff face.

Four Greater Periwinkle flowers below the Globe with Burdock burrs present nearby. In Durlston Bay there was a solitary surfer which I consider as adventurous …. Another glance back on my path meant I caught sight of an immature Gannet off Durlston Head. Near Dell Bridge a pair of Bullfinches, a Jay an obligatory Blackbirds were seen. Nearby the rock face wept and dripped. A Wren appeared beside the timeline, mouselike in behaviour.
