Thursday 9th December 2021

Another quite wonderful sunrise this morning, certainly worth getting up and out to see, as the shafts of light caused the clouds to glow a deep pink, providing rays of pink across the sea, the colour fading as I looked both right and left from the main area.

Through these pink shards the occasional movement of a bird, in the distance a couple of Gannets, given a pinkish hue as they caught the light, while Shags were just a dak silhouette.

On the cliffs, also surveying the beauty was a Peregrine Falcon, standing erect on a rock outcrop, occasionally turning its head, perhaps as something or nothing caught its eye.

The dark seed heads of Hoary Plantain seemed to be more obvious than usual against the sky, while a patch of Teasels was being checked out by a small flock of Goldfinches, flashing their gold, white, red and black colours.

For the second time recently a very hairy brown caterpillar was wandering across the path, this looking identical to the one seen a couple of days ago which fitted the description and pictures of Ruby Tiger.

A few patches of Gorse in flower, bright yellow bursts of colour on this most prickly of plants, perched on top a Stonechat, pale orange chest and brown head, this bird ‘chatting’ noisily.

The ‘ticking’ of a Robin as it stood in amongst the branches of the Cherry Tree, made me look up, as I did a squawking Jay emerging and the Grey Squirrels were squabbling in the branches of the nearby Willow.

A small group of 5 or 6 Blackbirds took flight cackling as they went, while from the distance a Pheasant clucked!
