A breathless autumn morning with a gentle whisper of wind carrying the scent of cut grass, the bitter tang of Bracken, the sweet smell of honeysuckle and the sea. Overhead, a few Swallows and House Martins whistle by, along with a few Whitethroats , Lesser Whitethroats, Blackcaps and Chiffchaffs.
‘Jangling’ flock of crimson and gold Goldfinches hop from flower heads of Teasel, Woolly Thistle and Wild Parsnips, with a Spotted Flycatcher once again seen on the gully slopes.
Near the castle, some early flowering ivy is covered with a noisy swarm of White–Tailed Bumble Bees, with Red Admiral, Speckled Wood, Small Blue and Wall butterflies all on the wing. Hundreds of Ivy Bees on the Ivy outside the gallery.
