Learning Facilities

Durlston Castle

Interactive displays and exhibits illustrate the natural and social history of the Park, including seasonal displays, 'The Rock' and the Daily Wildlife Diary.

A hydrophone relays the underwater sounds of Durlston Bay and, in season, live pictures of the Guillemot colony can be viewed via a remote cliff camera.

A Ranger is always available at the Centre to help you get the most from your visit.

Shop

The shop, at Durlston Castle offers activity books suitable for Foundation-KS2 students, the 'Essential Guide to Durlston' as well as a resource CD for GCSE+ students.

There is also an extensive range of reference books, wildlife charts and posters, as well a selection of wildlife orientated souvenirs.

Toilets

These are situated at the Castle and Learning Centre, and include accessible toilets.

Learning Centre

The Learning Centre, just across the Car Parks from the Castle, offers an Activity Room which is available to hire by schools, colleges or community groups. It features excellent AV facilities, wifi and a range of resources to help you get the most out of your visit.

Ranger led sessions usually start at the Learning Centre.

Also located at the Learning Centre are an artists studio and a Nature Nursery, run by Kids Love Nature.

Wet Weather Lunch Facilities

Wet weather lunch spaces for school groups are available by arrangement.

Coach Parking

This is limited to the first parking area on the left (directing you to the Castle) and costs £8 per coach.  Minibuses can access all of the car parks, and cost £4. The Car Parks are less than 40 metres away from the Visitor Centre.

Free Parking is available for schools taking a Discovery Session with the Rangers.

Refreshments

A selection of hot and cold food, drinks and snacks are available at the Castle.

Hire of the Learning Centre

The Learning Centre is available for use by educational groups . Facilities include a digital whiteboard, chairs and tables for up to 50 and a small reference library.

Risk Assessment

You may wish to download our generic risk assessments for bringing a group to Durlston. These are no substitute for a pre-visit, but should provide much of the information you require.
