GILBERT WHITE'S GROUNDBREAKING BOOK "THE NATURAL HISTORY OF SELBORNE" and TWO CENTURIES OF ITS AMAZING ILLUSTRATIONS.
Gilbert White (1720-1793) wrote what was probably the world's first proper ecology book concentrating on his own observations around his home area. It shows great insight into the natural world. It is still in print and has run to over 100 different editions.
The talk will outline the life and work of White leading up to the publication of his book towards the end of his career. There will be an exhibition of a range of illustrated versions, including by well known artists such as Eric Ravilious and John Nash. A free raffle of related books will also be held!
£3.50. Free for Friends of Durlston. No need to book, just turn up on the night.
If you're interested in more of our evening talks, we hold one on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:30pm (excluding July, August, December and January).
