It was a damp and windy start to the day such that raindrop laden leaves had caused branches to droop. Whilst petals were soggy the fruits were firm upon Bramble. Wild Bay Willow Herb, Willow and Thistles pierced through a Blackberry clump. I noticed the invasive garden escape Montbretia in flower near the walling centre. Despite its red / orange flowers it is a plant I preferred not to see in the wild. Substantial Sloes and Haws were upon there respective Thorn bushes. Red Bartsia was at the roadside whilst a Buff Tailed Bumble Bee chose the visit a Woolly Thistle flower. Bittersweet also showed fruits but from a beige to deep red colour.

Near the quarr Common Toadflax stems drooped to kiss the ground. I headed for the cliff tops, passing Dwarf Thistle flowers, as I could see many small wavelets and a swell upon the sea. A solitary Great Black Back Gull perch, reliably, above a vacant cave-ledge. Whilst a Shag headed east another, perhaps the very same, was to shortly fly east low cover the sea. Amongst Golden Samphire rested a trio of Feral Doves near the gully mouth. Whilst a Carrion Crow explored the edge gully ravine, its partner observed from a Holly bush. Below the Lighthouse it was Rock Samphire flowers turn to dominate the flora. I passed a large fleshy Spear Thistle rosette yet to flower. Sea Campion flowers greeted me as I reached the south east corner of the Lighthouse. Upon the green I picked up a fleshy ribbon of wind-blown seaweed of a Kelp. Passing over Eyebright and Thyme I spied the remains of a Jackdaws skull complete with beak and feathers. “What had caused its demise?”, I pondered.

At Horseshoe Bridge I observed a Raven duo fly over with quiet calls. About here Old Man’s Beard smothered most vegetation, however, Yarrow and Bramble had poked through in places. Whilst ascending the downland I spotted a pair of Roe Deer as they emerged from a quarry hollow. As the sun occasionally peeped through the cloud it was enough to sustain some insect life. Meadow Brown, a Speckled Wood but mostly Gatekeepers made appearances, whilst striations came from the sward.
