A very quiet morning as I wondered the Country Park, in a sheltered part of woodland the sound of morning runners echoed around as I watched a family of 5 Wrens hopping around the Bramble and thick undergrowth. A Wood Pigeon moved with great noise from an Ivy-covered Hawthorn to a Holm Oak tree, hitting what sounded like every leaf on its way. I listened to the sound of Chaffinch and a loud rustling on the ground to find a Blackbird frantically digging in the leaves and soil; it must have found a tasty worm!

The vast ocean view was calming as only gentle sounds of waves reaching the cliff face and a few Herring Gulls above were heard. A Painted Lady Butterfly flew across the footpath and settled on a tree truck, as I watched it I noticed an orange beak poking up next to the Holm Oak, it was a juvenile Blackbird camouflaged against the mottled brown bark.

A racing Pigeon landed next to me on the path, I wonder if it is the same one that has been around for a few weeks? It was burying its head between the Restharrow, Tor Grass and Bindweed on the path edge. Many Gatekeeper Butterfly’s flew around the Bramble bushes and a Marbled White battled with the wind.

I watched along the cliffs and out to sea where a few sailing boats moved slowly across the water and some Great Black-backed Gulls bobbed along the little waves. The Peregrine Falcon sat on the cliff edge and the squeaky sound of juvenile Herring Gulls rose up from the base of the cliffs.

On the crest of the gully the wind has been constantly battering the grass and species like Birds-foot Trefoil, Knapweed, Wild Carrot, Agrimony and Lady’s Bedstraw that all usually grow taller are only a few inches high. The sound of a Green Woodpecker echoed across the gully, which made a group of Jackdaws take flight. The bird ringers this morning has Grasshopper, Willow, Sedge and Garden Warbler.
