The flora scent of the woodlands was a lovely wakeup this morning, Wren and Dunnock greeted me as I stepped into the shade of a Hazel tree, its leaves large dots spread across the canopy. The sound of a Tree Creeper was nearby but I didn’t get to see it, where as a Green Woodpecker was definitely making itself known sounding out across the whole woodlands.
The light breeze was making a very subtle rustle of leaves in the canopy above, and higher up Herring Gulls were performing their morning wake up call which I am sure had been going since 5am! A Robin was rustling around the base of a Sycamore tree and the sun was creating a gorgeous dappled light through its leaves. A Speckled Wood flew around an Elm tree on the edge of the Aviary Glade.
Along the coast path I love the difference of colour, shape and texture of the tall slender Bamboo and the fierce dark sharp Holly. As I looked up to the sound of a Carian Crow a Sycamore seed twirled its way down from the canopy, gentle falling on the limestone path. Out to sea the Isle of Wight is hidden behind a heat haze, 1 pleasure boat was moving west and through a gap in the trees a charm of Goldfinches flew overhead.
As the Castle came into view Gatekeepers, a Large White and a Red Admiral butterfly flew around a Buddleia bush. Along the timeline Blue tits, Wood Pigeon, Wren and Chaffinch all moved around the trees and undergrowth and a very noisy Blackbird was rustling around in some dried leaves.
Down on the clifftop many Shags were flying around and floating on the water 15+ in total, the Herring Gulls seem to be taking over again now as the dominant species along the coast, although a large group of Jackdaws also sat within the Tamarisk. A single Razorbill sat alone on the water, and 2 Guillemots flew out to sea.
An abundance of Marble Whites were flying all along the coast path, as well as Small Skipper and Lulworth Skipper. White/pink flowers of Bindweed were speckled along the edges of the coast path and a group of Linnets were flying between Gorse and Grass.
