Yesterday saw some car park verges being cut, however, car was taken to save key flowers including two Bee Orchid stems near the pedestrian crossings. This morning the refreshing sea mist was most welcome after previous temperatures up to 23.5 degrees welcome. Out of the mist the obvious sounds of Chiff Chaff and Whitethroat rang out. I inhaled the scent of roadside Elderflower blooms with much pleasure. Amongst fresh Holm Oak leaves there dangles the trees flowers. I was surprised at the dense Burdock and Charlock growth that obscured the entrance to the walling centre burn site.
Out on the download Agrimony had produced e few yellow flowers on its spikes stalk whilst pink Rest Harrow snaked hugged the ground. From near the quarr I could just make out the Lighthouse complex. Beside the measured mile markers, one saw the strip of sea close to the cliff. PE1124 was pot fishing off Anvil Point whilst several Guillemots were upon the sea. I heard Linnets pass overhead. Selfheal was seen amongst the sward below the markers. One Rock Pipit an several Feral Pigeon rested amongst the head deposit above Tilly Whim ledge. Gently lapping wave sound was most soothing.
At the gully mouth eastern slope, it was great seeing the carpet of Kidney Vetch. Offshore a Cormorant passed by near coast path level. Below the lighthouse I found I believe a Carrot Broomrape pale flower stem. This leafless species taps into host plants to benefit from their photosynthesis. At lighthouse green the costal slopes were hidden in the mist. Whilst on the summit of the relatively flat green I heard a Yellow Hammer then enjoyed seeing four Bee Orchid stems. Whilst ascending from the horseshoe bridge I entered a cloud of Skylark song. I flushed a small charm of Goldfinches which soon returned to extracting seeds from grassland plants. A male Stonechat flew past calling. Soon a Roe Deer stood frozen upon one of the cattle tracks. Its head and erect ears moved auditing its surroundings. One Small Blue appeared before I reached the Small Copse.
In South Field I heard Carrion Crow calls as a trio were amongst the sward. I soon found a fourth such bird hopping along the mown path enclosed by tall meadow growth. This large juvenile appeared not be cable of take off from such a location. I passed by resisting the temptation to pick up as my human scent would only deter its return to its family.
