A quite fabulous early morning, with sunshine and blue skies and birdsong coming from almost every angle.

Overhead the Skylarks were singing, tiny dark dots to be found after much searching.  A Kestrel hovering, wings flickering as it kept its head perfectly still, until swopping on to repeat this performance a little further across the field – in its search for breakfast.

In the distance the loud call of a Green Woodpecker, while closer to the ‘teacher-teacher’ call of a Great Tit was coming from the Willow, the flowers of which a mass of yellow tufty fur.

Climbing swiftly up the trunk of the flowering Cherry was a Treecreeper, its white chest showing against the darker bark.

Just below the Globe the Greater Periwinkle is providing some bright purple flowers, but my attention was drawn by the piping call of an Oystercatcher which was flying past above the sea.  Swivelling round, binocular trained I found this striking bird, white and black feathers with a long orange beak.

Heading in the opposite direction as a Gannet, again gleaming white with black wing tips, its pale yellow head colouring able to be seen as it skimmed low over the blue sea.

Guillemots and Razorbills galore, scattered across the water, more black and white blobs to enjoy. The growling and beak tapping easily heard as was the pattering of feet and wings on the water as they took flight.

Above a large black shape of a Raven, long wings with definite fingers, but today carrying something in its beak and being harassed by first one Jackdaw and then by more of these much smaller corvids.
