We’ve got snow!

Only a tiny sprinkling of snow for us on the southern-most tip of Purbeck, but still nice to see, with white patches across the ground.

A Jay squawked as it took off from the Holm Oak, while a second appeared holding an acorn in its beak.

With this cold weather the ground has mostly frozen, leaving hundreds of small iced puddles to crunch underfoot.

A Green Woodpecker clung to a fence post, the bright red tails of its moustache, showing it was a male.

Pecking on the top of a snow covered Yellow Meadow Ant hill was a Magpie, the blues and greens showing well in the early light.

Out on the downland slopes, two Roe Deer jumped up from amongst the Blackthorn, Old Man’s Beard and Bramble scrub, to trot downhill, showing their dirty white coloured rumps.

By the lighthouse Rock Pipits were flitting, the first small bird spotted on my two mile long walk.  The calls, a piping sound, echoing around the rocks of Tilly Whim, they grey streaked birds flashing white wing feathers as it moved.

Flying past in an eastwards direction was a steady stream of Gannets, the large white wings showing well against the grey sea, as they banked the black tips also easily spotted.

Around the cliffs 4 Fulmars zoomed and braked as they moved in and out, in large circles, while below a Shag was on the water, its crest waving in the cold wind.

Four Great Black-backed Gulls, Herring Gulls, some Mediterranean Gulls and Common Gulls all passing by as well.
