Sunbeams pierced through the cloud over the sea and the slither of an old moon was seen. As a Magpie duo flew silently overhead a low hum was caused by the wind passing over a bollard hole.
In the wildlife garden Great Tits and Blue Tits visited the bird feeders. A Robin escaped between a gap in the panel fence whist hidden amongst the Buddleia was a solo Goldfinch. It was difficult to see clearly through the wind rippled pond surface. At the edges fresh vivid green (to me) Algae blooms grew. Several Fresh water snails and their empty spiral conical shells were seen. In the hedgerow Hazel catkins dangled and Rosehips were still available. It was the wind that caused the shrub stem to clatter together.
Before the walling centre a collection of fresh Garden Snail shell pieces indicated a Song Thrush anvil ant the base of Blackthorn. Amongst the wooded roadside Viburnum held buds, flowers and some petals had already been dropped. Departing from the wooded part of the diagonal path the cooing soothing cooing stopped a six Wood Pigeon scattered. One small Bay tree held and olive like dark fruit and many small tight buds. Likewise, the Cherry Plum held tight buds at its lower levels but up above a few appeared to have begun unravelling. Yellow Gorse flowers brighten the edges of the diagonal path. Crossing the path, a Wren paused amongst the spiked branches. Lower down, clinging to the Gorse, Wild Madder still held berries One Roe Deer Doe and I exchanged looks across the open ground of the goat plot. Her white rump vanished amongst the denser vegetation cover.
Herring Gulls and Guillemots were seen mostly heading in an easterly direction over the sea. A closer inspection revealed, and empty see cave, however, a Shag flew west, and one Fulmar was active. About a dozen Guillemots were upon the sea near the cliffs. One Feral Dove perched above Tilly Whim ledge whilst a Rock Pipit duo fluttered about the rock face. Near the gully mouth Jackdaws were two groups of four perched about two telegraph poles. Later they would be joined in a line on the overhead wires by those that had been upon the Lighthouse perimeter wall. It was easy to see the male Stonechat on top of the Bramble, Privet and Thorn clump. Only the first Raven croaked as it passed eastwards over the Lighthouse.
