About the centre there was much bird activity and sound which was not associated with Bird Ringing! Looking at the Robin on the fence dangling Rosehips were seen just beyond. A solo Goldfinch was in the Buddleia which was passed by a Blue Tit. A bare Sycamore initially hosted only one Goldfinch which became four, then seven such birds. Nearby both Chaffinch, House Sparrow and Dunnock were seen, and I thought one Greenfinch. Looking across Boys Brigade whilst Ballard Down was obscured by cloud Old Harry Could just be seen. The Herford Cattle had deposited fresh cow pats near Katy’s Garden area which they are grazing along with South Field and The Paddock. Several cattle were in the Small Copse. I scanned the many kidney shaped leaves at the woodland margin seeking Winter Heliotrope flowers. No blooms were there although I have seen such off site. The Carrion Crow quartet and Magpie duo were set up from the sward of south field. It was a Jay the flew into the copse canopy. Another such bird would latter be heard squawking then seen in the Upper Gully. Today’s flowers still included Knapweed, Wild Thyme, Ox Eye Daisy and Yarrow. A few Sea Aster flower persisted at an Ivy / retaining wall fringe beside Tilly whim steps. Deep beyond the wall crevices no doubt Adders were hibernating . Guillemot gargles were heard then approximately eighty birds counted in the sea cave ledge. Only six of the seabirds were observed upon the sea. Beyond them a Shag took off from the water and flew clockwise to head west before coming back eastwards alongside the cliffs. The score of birds that flew past were of such as size that I suspected them to have been Redwing or Fieldfare. A definite Thrush sighting was that of a Song Thrush in the Wildlife Garden.
