It’s such a magical time of year, each day brings a slight change as we slowly make our way into winter. Vivid colours from luscious greens, bright auburn, deep crimsons and all the shades of greys fill the air. Out to sea the sun looks like an exploding ball of fire creating rays of bright orange and pinks across the sky.

As I stepped into the woodland it seemed silent, an area of calm and tranquillity, until the sound of a distance Green Woodpecker broke the silence, followed by calls from a Jay, Wood Pigeon and Blackbird.

Acorns dropped from above and Sycamore leaves slowly floated their way to the ground, as I was drawn to the sea. The burst of bright pink streamed in through the trees covering them in a gorgeously warm morning glow, within seconds it was gone; the sun disappeared behind the clouds and the light changed dramatically to a crystal-clear palette of greens and browns. Beyond the grazing Herefords 3 Roe Deer munched away in the distance.

20 Goldfinches perched and twittered from an Ash tree, a sound that became more familiar as my walk continued. It was certainly Goldfinch galore this morning with hundreds of Goldfinches and Linnets flying overhead. The delicate leaves of the Silver birch quivered, as the short sharp showers fell from the now deep grey sky.

On the cliffs the Peregrine Falcon was perched on the cliff top, a magnificent animal that watched me as I admired it’s fierce talons dug deep into the soil, it’s head moving as I made my way around the cliff still watching it, as it did me. It’s grey speckled feathers blowing helplessly in the wind making it look almost vulnerable as it surveyed the coastline on high alert.

50+ Guillemots were tightly packed within the ledge and a couple were flying off back to sea. Rock Pipits blended into the bare earth and Herring Gulls flew along the cliff face. Walking back to the centre a swoop of House Martins flew over, as the Jackdaws floated on the breeze and Linnets, Goldfinches and Long-tailed Tits filled the air.
