Tuesday 10th December 2019

The early start enabled me to enjoy a pink horizon, the clouds reflecting gloriously, this changed as I continued the patrol becoming dark grey as the rain started.

The Black Pines in the Large Copse swaying in the wind, near the top of one was a Carrion Crow, the dark outline against the sky.  Taking off from the Ash tree adjacent was a large Wood Pigeon its wings clapping loudly as it flew off.

As the rain continues the ground is becoming muddier and slipperier, with puddles developing again!

Down to the woodland where I was greeted by the squawk of a Jay, the colours flashing in front of me – pink, blue and white.  A I watched I was again amazed at the way this corvid flies, seemingly so light as it moved through the trees.

Peering to the tops of the Beech tree, flitting movement could be seen, after watching for a while the blur of feathers turned out to be Goldcrests, the greenish colour blending in well with the branches, but the occasional flash of its head as it looked down was spotted eventually.

Through the gushing sound of the wind their high pitched calls could also be heard.

Along the woodchip path the white berries of the Snowberry, looking like white shiny blobs have been stuck on the ends of some thin twigs for Christmas!

The undergrowth hiding the Wren which was loudly calling, then appearing for a moment before hiding away again.

Just above the black berries of Privet mix with the still green leaves on some on the plants, alongside the tall stands of Bamboo, while a dappling effect was being caused by the shiny green leaves of the Japanese Spindle along the path.
