Triple, triple, brew some tipple
Fire blaze and cauldron ripple
What did Douglas see today, when he went about his way?
Not rising now ‘fore crow of cock since forward has been wound the clock
On chilly morn with eyes both peeled he entered through Boys Brigade Field
Red Clover as he strode up, by Yellow Fieldcap’s inverted cup
Goldfinches abroad in charms and acorns left by Squirrels arms
Cross tarmac’d paths Great Tits did fly with screeching Jays past sight of eye.
Demonic cackles so coarse and rough by paths lined fresh with Candlesnuff
And one more dangerous by far, a Death Cap by a rotten spar.
Horse Chestnuts shod leaves in scores as other trees bore winter stores
Sloe and Haw showed blue and red with many a bird sure to be fed
Further on the woodland route, Coral Fungi were bearing fruit
With Pale Milkcap and Sulphur Tuft, out in force all plum and puffed
A flash of yellow through the brush, a Goldcrest moving in a rush
With Blue Tit singing close at hand with colours showing rich and grand
There were more birds that flapped and flew, Lapland Bunting, Crossbill too.
That’s what Douglas saw today, as he went about his way.
