The early sunshine encouraging me and the wildlife to be up and about! Stood in the branches of an Oak tree was a Grey Squirrel, holding in its paws and mouth an acorn, as I walked past it dropped its paws, leaving the green fruit poking out of its mouth.
Some superb Swallow sightings, as these primarily blue and buff hirundines were swooping low to the ground then whizzing up and over my head and past my shoulders, so close it seemed I could have touched them.
Painted Lady butterflies basking on the leaves of the Dogwood, the orange, black and white pattern quite distinctive, nearby the smaller Meadow Browns and Gatekeepers also soaked up the sunshine whilst a Red Admiral glided above landing eventually on the Bramble.
Tinkling as they took flight across the meadow was a small flock of Goldfinches, a better view was had once they had perched, allowing the marks on their chest and gold flashes on the wings to be seen. A Robin joined them on the Ash branches while in the periphery vision the pale pinkish colour of a Jay was spotted.
From the hedgerow a sudden burst of activity and a Redstart took flight before dashing back amongst the thorns, it was the red tail which gave away the identify.
The meadow was alive with insects, Field and Stripe-winged Grasshoppers leaping and gliding away from my footsteps while Meadow Grasshoppers chirped. Crawling up the stem of Honeysuckle was a Dark Bush-cricket, upon which, on close inspection a yellow stripe can be seen on its belly.
In amongst the leaves of the Field Maple and then a Sycamore a Chiffchaff was watched as it flitted, landed and then searched the underside of the leaves for an insect morsel for its breakfast.
Along the cliffs a Peregrine Falcon glided, two different colours of grey on its back, wings swept back as it passed.
On the water a Shag was bobbing and another landed on the rock face just below the point where a Great Black-backed Gull was perched. The salt tolerant flowers of Sea Aster and Rock and Golden Samphire are providing splashes of lilac, pale green and yellow colour along the cliffs.
