Singing loudly and noisily from the amongst the soft green newly emerging leaves at the top of an Ash tree was a Robin, the song being thrown. The combination of this jaunty song was competing with the scratchy rattle of the Common Whitethroats who were perched in the thorny scrub of the Blackthorn.
In the meadows the flowers are looking magnificent with Bulbous Buttercups providing a wonderful yellow hue, the sepals all pointing down on this species, while on the Meadow Buttercups which are also out, the sepals go the other way!
The Pale Flax adding a gorgeous pale blue colour to the view, the tall stems waving gently in the breeze.
The white tops of Hoary Plantain added to the purple blobs of the flowers of the Common Vetch and the splashes of paler yellow of the Cowslips.
A Song Thrush singing with gusto from the Elder, the flowers not yet out but almost ready to burst. As I admired this bird with its speckled front, a Chaffinch landed on the adjacent twig and both stared singing, keeping their own song, seemingly not distracted by the other.
Swooping overhead a group of 6 Swallows, long tails showing well as was the red blob under the chin of a couple as I watched them through my binoculars.
More flowers to admire include the common Daisy, Bird’s-foot Trefoil and the masses of Cowslips scattered across the meadows.
Landing on a patch of limestone was a Small Copper, the bright orange wings marked by small dark specks on this butterfly, also flying by was a Speckled Wood, the pale rings easily spotted on the dark background.
Along the coast the Thrift providing some wonderful splashes of pink, with some large examples of the tall yellow flowered Wild Cabbage showing.
A sudden burst of song from a Skylark accompanied my return journey to the Centre, just adding to a very enjoyable early stroll.
