The grey start to my morning was brightened by watching a female Roe Deer as she lay in the short grass, grazing occasionally on the grass around her.
Scampering across the ground were 3 Rabbits, white tails bobbing up and down as they headed for the shelter of the Bramble scrub.
A sudden loud squawk from the newly leaved Elder and 3 Jays emerged, all heading off in different directions, their white rumps flashing as did the blue wing feather of one.
The sound of a Chiffchaff calling, the two tone song standing out against the silence of the windless morning, this bird was perched in amongst the delicate white flowers of the Blackthorn, which are now starting to provide a few flowers across the hedgerows.
From high in the sky came the gorgeous sound of a Skylark, the fluty song wafting down, while from the Gorse came the weaker song of a Dunnock and the strong tones of a Chaffinch.
Overhead as I wandered towards the downland passed 3 Meadow Pipits, as well as a Raven and Sparrowhawk dashing along the edge of the scrub.
A few flowers now emerging including some delicate Cowslips scatterd in the meadows, along with Dandelions including a few gone over clocks, and Daisies.
Along the coast Danish Scurvy Grass providing carpets, which as I was looking at I was surprised by a Peregrine Falcon perched nearby, the dark grey back towards me but the head swivelled round allowing me to look at the yellow rings around the eyes.
Common Whitlow scattered across the downs as are a few Hairy Violets providing the occasional splash of colour.
A male Roe Deer, antlers showing well bounded up and over the dry-stone wall with great elegance, while a Stonechat perched and chatted and both Blackbird and Song Thrush plus Chaffinch and Goldfinch provided a background music.
Still no sign of the Wheatear – what used to be the earliest African migrant.
