Upon the door frame sat a Shield Bug and other insects were seen with the occasional Bumble Bee on the path side with Gnats flying at head height!
Neared the climber’s car park Horse Chestnut leaves had unfurled to become dangling digits. Squirrels scampered beside the woodchip path and a Spindle stem showed open leaves. The coconut scent rose from the Gorse flowers bedside the diagonal path despite the sun being behind the cloud. A male Blackbird perched amongst a sea of scrub with a Jay flitting past it.
Two duos of Adders moved to become a quartet above Till Whim steps. The darker red / brown reptiles were the females whilst the males were grey. Nearby two Robins amongst the Tamarisk.
At least three fishing vessels were off shore and the Lifeboat headed west. Today I saw approximately a score of Razorbills. They were seen on the water, taking off and then flying back to the cliffs at a height above the Guillemot level.
A similar number of Guillemots occupied their cave whilst a raft of one hundred “gargling” seabirds were upon the sea below with a pair of Great Black Back Gulls also upon the water. Today it was a pair of Herring Gulls that perched above the cave. Forty Jackdaws swirled above the observation point.
As I progressed through the gully towards the bridge I began to hear Skylarks. Investigating the fluffy Willow catkins were a pair of Goldfinches. A pair of Chaffinches appeared briefly. Magpies and Jackdaws investigated the grassy slopes.
Two spotted basal rosettes of leaves showed more “ink spots” than green leaf and were most likely Early Purple Orchids. Plain green rosettes were beside John & Pat bench above the quarr perhaps being Early Spider Orchids. Arum, Woodsage and Hemp Agrimony were amongst the fresh leaves shown.
Back near the Centre the familiar Green Woodpecker waffle was heard with chattering Blue Tits nearby, the call of Carrion Crow. In the distance a Raven croaked, and a Donkey brayed.
