Thanks to the mist Spiders webs are more visible due to the water droplets perched upon them. However, I did nearly obtain a web facemask when I explored the upper gully!

The Herford cattle were quiet and content in South Field. A few were amongst the small copse snapping branches with their hooves. Interestingly their grazing appears to avoid the Fleabane. I had an unusual good view of a Meadow Pipit (looking like a miniature Thrush) perched at top the island of scrub in South Field. It soon flew off to join its calling partner. A solo Magpie perched upon the hedgerow.

A Lesser Bloody Nosed Beetle, about the size of a Rabbit “leaving” was found amongst the whorls of Bedstraw. Nearby were the obvious seed pods of Birdsfoot Trefoil.

Upon entering the wares there were views out to sea and the down land despite the mist. Near I had a brief glimpse of a Kestrel near the mile markers, however, it had no time for hovering and headed castle bound. I believe I heard the brief call of a passing Oystercatcher. The briefest of squawks suggested a Jay in the Upper Gully.

From the gully rock outcrop, I briefly caught the flash of a Rabbits tail before it disappeared into the scrub. Bushy Lichen were visible upon bare thorn stem, indeed some of the Hawthorns were leafless thus displaying their ruby fruits well.

Back at the centre a charm of fifty to sixty Goldfinch flew overhead. The ringing group reported forty-five captures predominantly Chiff Chaffs, Blackcaps & a few Robins. Both birds were seen and heard calling nearby.

Gregg photographed a newt in the wildlife garden pond. It was a large newt with a crest. Typically, both Smooth and Great Crest Newts can have a crest a yellow underbelly so more studies to take place!
