Despite a South Westerly blowing at 18 miles per hour there was still Swallow and House Martin activity. Five migrants were first seen about the learning centre, then a dozen progressing up Long Meadow, another dozen was seen about Durlston head. More were seen near the Small Copse where the birds undulated over the scrub and tree tops then dove down and skimmed the sward of South Field when opportunity arose.
The three birds with long tails and undulating flight appeared to me to be Pied Wagtails. A pair of noisy squawking Jays were only heard whilst a pair of Carrion Crows only put in the briefest of appearances. Ten Rock Doves huddled together on the cliff edge above Tilly Whim. White frothy water was of Tilly Whim and Durlston Head whilst Durlston Bay escaped white water until the shoreline. Rocky boulders were heard be rolled by the waves.
A score of Jackdaws departed reservoir copse, perhaps some of which I later encountered about the cliff top Observation Point. Out a sea one juvenile Herring Gull appear to be dipping its feet into the rolling waves. I thought bit was perhaps trying to grasp something in the swell, however, it eventually sat upon the sea, so it might only have been looking for a suitable spot between the swell. A Shag flew east above my head height whilst I was on the cliff top.
Stinking Iris red fruits were joined by the miniature pepper like fruits of Bittersweet. Said plant gave cover to a Wasp near Durlston Head. Several more of these positive pollinators were amongst the remaining Flea Bane flowers upon Long Meadow.
Other flowers observed included: a few Sea Aster still amongst the Tamarisk and cliff tops; cliffside Rock Samphire; Dwarf Thistle; a few Buddleia heads; even a litter yellow showing from the Kidney Vetch flowers others wise full of down. Meanwhile, Hemp Agrimony having was alive only with fluffy down. With the windy conditions it looked to be a good day for wind set seeds to be dispersed!
Despite the conditions a hidden Bush Cricket was heard churring amongst the coast path margin.
