A pair of Goldfinches departed from the Centre roof whilst a Pied Wagtail was upon a picnic table and a Chaffinch was contented as it explore the car park margin.
Over Long Meadow’s tall vegetation as Kestrel hovered, no doubt have spotted a Small Mammal in the between the tall grass. Above the Coastal Woodland a pair of Herring Gulls glided eastward. Plenty of Honey Suckle flowers were to be seen, I could not but compare the petals to a green woodworkers wood shavings. Upon Caravan Terrace Bridge I believe it was a Painted Lady that I briefly glimpsed. Before the castle entrance I finally remembered that the unusual white flowers upon a shrub belonged to Mock Orange.
Walking under the canopy of Castle Wood I heard the calling of Woodpigeon and noticed the abundance of Lord’s & Ladies fruiting bodies, some of which had already seen nibbling of their red fruits. Once out into the open on the diagonal path I heard the gargling of a Guillemot. I was most surprised to see over twenty five Herring Gulls sat upon the sea off Tilly Whim. Earlier our Dolphin watch keeper Ann recorded a pair of Raven. I noticed Ann’s report of five Fulmar, I witnessed at least four on the wing but I think we still had three breeding pairs. Some twenty five plus Guillemots were upon the sea, with over sixty in their cave ledge.
Only none Bloody-nosed Beetle was seen this morning, however, amongst the butterflies were Meadow Browns, Gate Keepers, Small Blue, Adonis Blue and Speckled Wood.
Kidney Vetch flowers still had a good show at the Gully Mouth and at last Yellow Wort with its conjoined leaves had its yellow flowers out as well. A pair of Rock Pipits flitted about the coast path steps. I heard a Green Woodpecker calling from the Lighthouse side of the gully and then saw it perched on the side of a telegraph pole. A Dunnock sang it heart out from a bare Hawthorn protruding above the Gorse. A tiny wren sized warbler appeared possibly being a Chiff Chaff?
Upon the rock outcrops on the gully slope I found evidence of Song Thrush activity indicated by fresh garden snail shell remains. Whilst a males Stonechat called out it partner preened nearby. Six Swifts silently flew by as I approached the Small Copse.
