A gorgeous morning with a fresh breeze, off down through the woodland where the smell of Wild Garlic was still pervading the air, the round flower heads in large patches across the woodland floor. Scattered about also the taller and bell-shaped flower of the 3-Cornered Leek adding more onion smell to the area.
The other strongest perfume in the area was from the Poplars. While around on the clifftops a strong waft of guano came up from the Guillemots sat on the ledges below.
The sound of the gargling of these birds also on the air, while more were washing and turning over and over on the water. The ledges are stacked with Guillemots sat on eggs at present, the first hatchings are due at the end of the month.
Gliding past was a fantastic Kittiwake, this our smallest and most delicate gull has jet black wing tips and pale yellow legs, the rest of it being bright white, as it flew around in circles I took this opportunity to admire.
Compared with Kittiwake the Fulmar is a much chunkier bird with mottled grey straight wings, at least four were gliding along the clifftops, with another 3 sat in nooks on the rocks.
High above the sea was a glorious Gannet, the white wings being shone on by the sun alongside it was a Great Black-backed Gull, enabling the birds to be compared.
Walking up through the downland where the yellow Horseshoe Vetch is covering swathes of the ground, fluttering across it the magnificent turquoise coloured Adonis Blue butterfly.
Nearby a Wall Brown butterfly was basking on a large limestone block, the wings a pattern of brown tiles.
In the early morning a few birds still singing with Wren, Dunnock and Great Tit across the woodland, but the twittering of Linnets the highlight along the coast, but accompanied by the rattle of a Lesser Whitethroat and the scratchy song of a Common Whitethroat.
Zipping eastwards a small stream of Swallows and below the pale pink blobs of Thrift flowers, a single Common Mallow also spotted in flower along with chunks of Kidney Vetch and Common Vetch.
