A male Great Tit perched upon a City of London Bollard beside the Learning Centre patio. Perhaps it is declaring it territory about this potential nest hole in the bollard. The remaining (but reduced) snow and ice cover helped to pick out Rabbit, Roe Deer, and Human and Domesticated Dog tracks! A Rabbit was noted travelling between open ground and scrub cover in the gully. Looking along the coastline westwards to St. Alban’s Head the Coastguard Lookout initially looked like part of the surrounding snow cover. Ancient Strip Lynchetts and modern plough / drill furrows were enhanced by the snow cover.
Brief Green Woodpecker calls came from the gully. Eventually, I discovered a Green Woodpecker clinging to the side of a telegraph pole, looking ready to drum (for communicating). Instead the Woodpecker preened its vivid Lime Green, Red, Black, Grey and lemon feathers whilst clinging to the post! Later we both progressed towards Lighthouse Road Bridge although the bird took an undulating route over the ant hill landscape.
A male Stonechat was seen upon the sunnier gully slope, also a top the scrub where a Wheatear and several singing Dunnock. As I walked up hill I passed a flurry of Long Tailed Tits and Great Tits upon an Elder near the Quarr.
Upon the overhead wire perched a Kestrel on the Lighthouse side of the gully. It was not long before the predator flew up the gully and upslope but it did not send up the Jackdaws upon the coastal slope sward, as I had expected.
I had spent time about Lighthouse Green in the hope of seeing one of the four Golden Plover photographed yesterday. Instead I had a squabbling group of seven Meadow Pipits.
There was a slight swell at sea and two Shag flew low over the water in opposing directions. The dry Tor Grass stems gave a brief voice as to wind as it rustled through.
