I was delighted to find a small palm sized clump of Frog Spawn and the edge of the wildlife pond. However, I later learnt that this had been relocated from a domestic pond during clearance works. Like a child I poked a stationary Smooth Newt with a stiff grass stem. This caused it only to burrow further into the cover of algae. With time I counted a dozen Newts in all! Furthermore, on Monday Doug discovered a very docile Common Toad whilst we were cattle herding near the reclaimed landfill site!
The unmistakable vocals of the Song Thrush rang out near the centre. Whilst there was plenty of bird activity and song I was struggling with the little devils this morning, however, Tree Sparrows were present. Up in the sky a waning gibbous moon was clear to see.
Originally it was Carrion Crows which we upon the mile markers and I saw and heard a lone Raven calling and flying over the wares. Shortly, a Raven’s occupied the upper markers top. I went to closer to establish if it were Crow or Raven upon the lower marker, however, as I approached the fact that both birds flew off calling together establish it was a Raven duo!
From Amphibians to Reptiles as there were two Adders basking above the Tilly Whim arch in their usual spot. One had flattened out to maximise its surface area to capture sunlight, this giving excellent views of its Zig Zag pattern.
Off shore a raft of some thirty Guillemots were seen and their gargling heard. I zoomed in to study a left of centre group of five. My suspicions were confirmed in the four of these were Razorbills. Another eight Razorbills were discovered on the edges of the floating throng. Upon the ledge and additional thirty odd birds were packed with a Herring Gull perched at the seaward edge. At least three Fulmars were performing their cliff top circuits and a Peregrine Falcon flew over the floating birds a headed east. Meanwhile, the Jackdaws appeared briefly content to be perched in in the Tamarisk. Off shore I heard the call of a passing Oyster Catcher in flight.
