Another warm and quiet morning, with patchy Altostratus and Cirrus clouds leaving plenty of spaces for the sun to shine through. The verges in the car park played host to Wild Parsnip, Scarlet Pimpernel and Self Heal, with some patches of Birds-Foot Trefoil and Plantain mixed in.
I made my way over to the Timeline to check the fungi situation, and was pleased to come across the Red Cage Fungus I spotted last week, still intact. There were also two new Lurid Boletes growing huddled together. A train of Jackdaws rattled off their calls to each other, before rising and departing as a flock when I approached.
When I arrived at The Clifftop Trail, a fresh sea breeze was blowing, Gatekeepers were alighting on the nearby dry stone walls and a Kestrel soared overhead, riding the updraft by the cliffs for a few seconds before swooping out of view. I continued on past little sprouts of Medic and Charlock, giving way to a mass of Wild Carrots and Meadow Barley.
Just ahead of the viewpoint, 3 Kestrels were sitting on a cliff ledge, presumably the one I saw earlier and some friends. Shags and Herring Gull traffic continued below unperturbed.
On my way to the lighthouse, Marbled Whites dominated the air, with the occasional Bloody Nosed Beetle traipsing across the footpath. Thrift and Agrimony were growing by the Lighthouse walls, and opposite, patches of Bramble Draped in Honeysuckle. The trek back to the Learning Centre was hot and thirsty, the heat of the day beginning to pick up. Warm weather again.
