Two Carrion Crows communicated across the car park one in a Sycamore beside the centre the other on the ground near Reservoir Copse. From a road side Elm a Magpie set off across Long Meadow. Upon inspection the castle’s Daffodils still have their well define buds yet to open as flowers, whilst the reliable Mexican Daisy flowers continued to decorate the wall. Above the building seven Herring Gulls rode a thermal.
Durlston bay contained white crested wavelets and pot marker buoys only. I managed to disturb Wood Pigeon on the timeline, from Blackthorn by the Noon bench, however, the last which emerged from Ivy beside the road bridge startled me!
From the observation point I eventually found some fifty Guillemots rafting upon the moving sea. Close by a Cormorant, showing its “Mohican” crest feathers, dove for fish. Three more Cormorants flew by and headed east as was the direction of travel of three Gannets and a dozen Herring Gull. Cliff side one Fulmar flew whilst from the ledge of ninety Guillemots most flew to or came from the west.
Further out a sea mist reduced visibility perhaps explaining why Anvil Point Lighthouse’s was functioning. Near the Gully mouth two Rock Pipits set up whilst a Jackdaw sat on the tail of the Lighthouse weather vane only accompanied by one Jackdaw for a change! A bird swept up then over the Lighthouse grounds wall and swooped down into the gully which I suspected as being a Song Thrush. Walking back up through the gully a startled Wren flew and protested ahead of me through and out of the cutting!
Hereford cattle grazing the top of the Wares whilst a Kestrel was briefly seen flapping its wings in a hover nearby. Wind on occasions caused the metal plates of the mile marker post to rattle! At the dry stone wall centre bonfire site a female Blackbird appeared from beneath a Christmas Pine cut from our sister Avon Heath Country Park
