Another glorious sunrise. This morning Magpies were prevalent especially about the tarmac surface edges perhaps hopeful for future Carrion Crow. Both myself and a Magpie, investigated a car park corner to discover Robins, Blue Tits, Great Tits and Chaffinch making much sound! At Long Meadow both Harry (walking Alfie) and I commented on hearing yet not seeing the Green Woodpecker. However, a trio of Blackbirds at least two Robins investigated the path fringe whilst a Meadow Pipit passed overhead. A sprinkling of flowers decorated a Laurel bush whilst there was much Blue Tit activity with chases and flurries. A small white feather floated down from a Holm Oak suggesting a Wood Pigeon might have been preening.
Within the Aviaries trees were showing healthy buds: firm light brown on Sycamore tips; pointed cigar on Beech; large and sticky dark brown of a Horse Chestnut. I was surprised to see Hazel clinging onto leaves whilst around the glade they displayed their “lambs tail” catkins. Eventually I discovered two miniscule Snow Berry fruits developing under the shade of the tree canopy. Three Corner Leek blades hinted at the scent of spring to come. A tall slender Sycamore swayed and creaked in the wind thanks to its Evergreen Ivy sail!
From the “Ann & Ken, Lilly & Fred, Kitty & Joe,” bench one saw the Barfleur Brittany ferry leaving our shores whilst a golden sunbeam reached across the bay.
