Another dry and rather warm morning with a splendid sunrise through the cloud. Plenty of dew underfoot and droplets decorating Bramble and Blackthorn in places. Through in South Field a Rabbit was briefly visible with evidence about of their excavations. Cow pats which were only a week old had been dissected no doubt my Carrion Crows seeking insect larvae. As soon as I entered the Wares I met grazing Hereford Cattle and thus I thought it wise to inspect our electric fence line, which was good. At most I counted two dozen of the thirty four cattle but I was confident they were secure and indeed range from the lower gully to the level top.

With quite a swell at sea there were no birds upon the water, however, a Cormorant flew east whilst a mixed bag of Herring Gull and Greater Black Backed Gulls flew together in the opposite direction. Although there were no Guillemots perched in their alcove ledge at least two flew seawards from a perch lower down and out of view. A fifty strong train of Jackdaw flew off the cliffs and inevitably appeared elsewhere on my walk! Clinging to the rock / grass over hang above Tilly Whim Ledge were nine Rock Dove and what initially appeared to be one Jackdaw. However, further inspection reveal this to be a melanistic Rock Dove! Interestingly there were fish upon the quarry ledge as well, one even whole. These were possibly bait left by a foolish angler whom had climbed in as I cannot image any bird leaving such a hoard! Another carcass was much smaller being that of the upturned body of a Bloody-nosed Beetle.

Within the gully the Lower Mile Marker Post was claimed by a Raven from four Jackdaw. I listened as the Raven called either to a mate or the other birds. It was a delight to see a pair of Raven fly off together up the gully, while one took a coastal route the other flew parallel inland. Whilst Meadow Pipits flew overhead a Green Woodpecker was only heard but Wrens, Robins, Blackbirds, Great Tits, and Blue Tits and of course Magpies were noted.
