Friday 25th November

Although the park was drenched in the glorious, bright fingers of warming sun today, the blustery, piercing winds played havoc with my walk, freezing me to my core and exacerbating the dull headache that was throbbing in my brain.

Above me two Crows battled against the gale with a squawk of protest while Magpies and Ravens shared their plight and expressed their disgruntlement as they were blown off their chosen course by the wind’s whims. I watched the expanse of Hawthorn and Blackthorn sway rhythmically like a crowd of rock fans during an epic ballad with a few sporadically placed Robins and Chaffinches holding on for dear life, precariously teetering on the scrubs branches.

I decided to speed down to the woodlands in a vain attempt to experience some respite from the wind (You wouldn’t think I’m originally northern, would you?) and was rewarded with a great view of a pair of Jays in conversation, twiddling their black moustaches in contemplation of a point well made. A group of Starlings glistened in the light while Blackbirds pecked amongst the leaves of the floor and Wood pigeons hopped from tree branch to branch. With my head still pounding I had to fight an insurmountable urge to settle down in a wooden fort that some children had made out of branches and twigs and slumber in its cosiness.

Herds of Goldfinches persisted against the wind above while a Song thrush chirped out from somewhere in the distance, its song carried on the breeze. I was greeted by the most beautiful snow white Golden Retriever taking her human for a walk, possibly the only creature to benefit from the wind, as her flowing golden locks swayed stylistically and majestically as she galloped along.
A quick flash of red gave me a quick glimpse of a passing Redwing while Herring Gulls, Great black backed Gulls and Shags swooped through the sky above the resting Black headed gulls that floated amongst the waves
