South Field had its winter puddles whilst at the boundary between the aforementioned and Saxon Field the Badger latrine pit had been excavated by an unknown animal. In Saxon Field I counted only 20 Herford Cattle whilst there should be 34, at least Apprentice Ben saw 28 later.  Jackdaws were on the ground amongst the cattle unlike over the weekend when some stood on the mammals backs rather like Cattle Egret! Interestingly Ever Green Ivy had been browsed by the cattle, that and Old Man’s Beard provided some variety amongst the otherwise bare branches of Blackthorn and Hawthorn. I replaced a cattle grazing notice blown off the gate to the drove.

Off Anvil Point white crested rolling waves were rather inhospitable, however, a solo Cormorant sat it out for a while only to be sent eastwards such that it chose to fly off and relocate. Both Greater Black Backed Gulls and Herring Gulls put in a coastal appearance. Where the sun broke through the cloud on the horizon its rays resembled golden spokes of a wheel.

Jackdaws were congregating near the lighthouse as is common, whilst a pair of Goldfinches and later five Linnets flitted past heading west. Where the down land met the meadows a Kestrel hovered facing into the wind but shortly went out of vision.

Within the wares Tor Grass was up to my knees in places. Field Mushrooms appeared on occasions whilst a rather translucent unidentified fungi cropped up on a narrow track with bare ground in otherwise tall sward.  One Oxeye Daisy determinedly held on to wet, floppy petals which were battered by the wind. Bristly Ox Tongue still had flowers whilst Privet on the gully slopes retained its leaves. Carrion Crow put in an appearance mainly from Holm Oak branches above the Goat Plot. Otherwise Blackbirds, Robins and Great Tits were heard but not seen whilst Grey Squirrel and Wood Pigeon and Magpies reliably put in an appearance.
