The sounds of Robins calling from what seemed like almost every bush was the dominant sound of the morning, their red breast showing as the sun occasionally caught them.

From a small clump of dead teasels came the tinkling calls of Goldfinches, these birds always a delight to see and hear, with the golden flashes on the wings and red and white patches on the rest of their bodies.

As the sun rose above the horizon the shafts of light burnt through the mist providing a delightful glow, but as the patrol continues and the sun rose further and disappeared behind the thicker cloud cover making it darker!

Amongst the Blackthorn scrub a Chiffchaff moved from branch to branch, the slightly dull greeny-yellow easy to see, also a Blackcap was flitting a much greyer coloured bird.

A male Chaffinch perched on the top of a Wayfaring Tree, a few berries still present, while the Hawthorns are covered in berries and the Ivy patches a mass of sweet smelling flowers attracting a variety of insects.

On the top of a dry-stone wall stile two different species of snail – the Yellow-lipped and the Discus snail.

Last night as I walked up the path, flying overhead were a number of Pipistrelle Bats, as they swooped between the tree line.  Trotting across the path further ahead was a Fox, while the sound of the hooves a Roe Deer as it skipped over the tarmac, was accompanied by the calling of a Tawny Owl.
