In the clear sky a 3/8th moon and fresh vapour trails were visible. Around the learning centre the scrub was loaded with many warblers certainly including Chiff Chaff; Black Cap; Willow Warbler and Whitethroat. At least two pairs of Stonechats were about, one pair I noticed were rather faded in their colours although whether these were immature or tired adults I cannot say.
Our Green Woodpeckers were active, heard from both the small copse and gully. Eventually I saw two of them in the latter. Three Wrens broadcast alarm calls from the scrub. Above me two Ravens headed east. Overhead I noticed at least a score of Swallows in flight. Inevitably there were plenty of Jackdaws about of which, I counted 15 west of Anvil Point whilst looking east two score circulated near the coast path observation point.
On Harts Tongue Fern leaf underside one noted the lines of spore ready for wind dispersal. Only two Rabbits made brief appearances this morning, however, a Sika Deer Doe was clearly visible on the gully skyline. Eventually she ventured down slope onto the rock outcrop and studied me back.
I had three sightings of a Large White butterfly initially it took flight from the cliff top by the gully and landed below to bask on the coast path. Speckled Wood and Painted Lady were also seen. My two further sightings were as I / we progressed up the gully. I also saw unidentified Skippers. Low tide meant that the Barnacle encrusted rocks were exposed and the Seaweed was due to become near desiccated in the sun. Upon a still sea a few sailing yachts headed west. Only one Greater Black Back Gull headed east over the sea. Hamish informed me some 200 Blackcap; 100 Chiff Chaff and 500 Meadow Pipit were seen.
