After a much cooler night which left a fresh dew over the meadows, I once again noticed a handsome Robin keeping a close eye on me until I moved away from his territory.

Just round the corner from the Learning Centre I spotted in the Brambles (with nicely ripening berries) a ‘tent’ of newly hatched caterpillars squirming around. I couldn’t get close enough to have a proper look but I suspected possibly Fox or Eggar Moth.

Along the path down into Skipworth Meadow I noted an assortment of Micro Moths and some late Meadow Brown Butterflies, whilst in the air a Wood Pigeon and pair of Jackdaws flew towards the coast. An impressive Wasp Spider then caught my attention, making it two in two days that I have found.

In the Large copse I was able to see fresh evidence of Badger activity, and plenty of discarded pine cones from the Squirrels overhead.

As I meandered my way through Saxon field I was still unable to locate any of the reported Down Shieldbug nymphs in amongst the Bastard Toadflax, a quest which is beginning to take over my life! Through the rest of the meadow I came across several Small and Common Blues, a multitude of Crickets and Grasshoppers and numerous Bees of both the Honey and Bumble .

I also came across a small pile of fresh Roe Deer droppings along the field margin, whilst also seeing a very late unidentified Skipper flitting past

Down on the Lighthouse Green a lovely fresh Adonis Blue offered me a perfect snap as I continued along the coast path. All was quiet out to sea, with the golden yellow morning sunlight bouncing of the blue-green water of the Channel.

Finding Katie back towards the base, and Mick bird ringing in the wildlife garden I was given a list of sightings for the morning including Spotted Flycatcher, Redstart, Whitethroat, Chiffchaff, Blackcap, several species of Warbler and an added bonus of a Clouded Yellow Butterfly.
